CERTIFICATE WORKSHOPS

The Sydney Stage Combat School courses offer stage combat at 3 different levels Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. A complete educational system, each level provides students with the necessary skills to progress to the next level. All workshops focus on correct application of technique, safety and teamwork. The Basic Certificate - gives you the fundamental knowledge of the stage combat system and covers various aspects of physical performance. Students are trained in safe unarmed theatrical fighting techniques, as well as single sword (Sabre) for the stage and screen. No previous experience of stage combat is necessary or assumed.

The Intermediate Certificate - expands on these basic skills and begins to explore the student’s dexterity by studying single-handed, double handed and Sword and Auxiliary weapon systems. Balance and footwork are tested further as students change from linear to circular fighting styles. Performance levels are also raised. Participants must have completed the Basic Certificate within the last three years and meet the minimum number of contact hours with an SSCS Instructor or Fight Director (this can be accomplished through our SSCS Casual Classes) to be eligible for this workshop.

The Advanced Certificate focuses more strongly on the performance elements of stage combat, both physically and emotionally. This level introduces advanced unarmed and close quarters fighting techniques as well as several new historic weapon systems that will truly challenge you as an Actor-Combatant.
